Grief and Bereavement Support

Grief is the emotion people feel when they experience a loss. It can be a feeling of deep sadness that can sometimes be debilitating. Symptoms of grief and bereavement include: headaches, fatigue, sleeplessness, over sleeping, depression, over eating, not eating enough, crying, anger, feeling overwhelmed or numb, and so much more.
There are many different reasons or causes that can trigger grief in a person. People can experience grief because of a death, financial loss or strain, loss of a job, health challenges, injury, the loss of a pet or relationship and other situations where a person feels a sense of loss.

There is no set pattern for experiencing grief, and everyone experiences grief differently. Many things affect how people experience and process grief. Age, gender, socioeconomic factors, life experiences and so much more. Elizabeth Kubler-Ross in her book On Death and Dying, describes five stages of grief: denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and acceptance. David Kessler added another stage, finding meaning in his book, On Grief and Grieving. Some people will follow a linear line through the stages, others will skip over or not experience all of the stages. Others will jump to and from and back and forth through the stages. There is no 'approved' way to go through the stages. There is no timeline to follow or check off.

A Death Doula can help start and maintain the healing process. I help people experiencing grief validate a loss, adjust to the loss and plan for and work towards a life after a loss.
